ABOUT THE 7 MILE RANCH
Are you looking for a deer hunting adventure in the beautiful surroundings of West Texas? If so you have come to the right place at 7 Mile Ranch. We are located in Comstock, Texas just 34 miles west of Del Rio, Texas. We offer not just a deer hunt but a deer hunting adventure. The hunting at 7 Mile Ranch is real West Texas hunting at its finest. These native West Texas whitetails have 21 square miles of low fence pasture to roam before they ever consider leaving the ranch. A large number of these deer are born, live, and die without ever leaving this ranch. They share this awesome land with black bear, mountain lions, bobcats, javelina, quail, dove, and aoudad sheep just to name a few. These are not pen raised pets that are turned out to be shot the next day. These are truly wild deer living their lives in some of the most beautiful and rugged land that can be found in Texas.
We have improved the ranch through water stations, 20 feeding stations of protein, corn, and vitamins. These improvements greatly benefit all of our wildlife including our large numbers blue quail, bobwhite quail, mourning doves, and numerous song birds. We commissioned Ms. Brittany Irle of San Antonio to do the research, photography, and catalog the many different species of the plants and flowers whose home is at the 7 Mile Ranch. The amount of colorful plants and flowers in this arid wonderland has to be seen to be believed. A sample of them can be seen in our picture gallery of flowers.
This is a ranch that is rich in history dating back to the Native Americans of 5000 years ago that inhabited this rugged beautiful land. You can still see and feel their presence when you see their paintings on the canyon walls and caves. The ranch was later inhabited by the Comanche and Apache Indians who traveled the area extensively while fighting the settlers moving into this part of Texas. Soldiers came to fight them and the settlers followed right behind.
The ranch got its name from the distance from Comstock combined with the fact that it is seven miles from the east fence to the west fence. This is truly “21 Square Miles of God’s Country”. Whether you enjoy staring at a night sky with stars so close they look like you could touch them or just looking across a canyon this is the place for you. 7 Mile Ranch has been a working sheep and goat ranch for over 100 years and we are a proud member of Texas Sheep and Goat Association.
